Meditation Verse: Psalm 30 “His favour lasts forever”
I love the way this week’s meditation phrase sits within the surrounding verse, if you have ever spent time with small children, you will be very familiar with this concept. I well remember my parents saying to me, “I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed” or this hurts me more than it hurts you!” But the anger was for a moment and the love was always there.
“4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.[b]
5 For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favour is for a lifetime.[c]
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.”
I live in a house full of cats who are my world, in fact I collectively refer to them as my babies which I know is ridiculous. The rest of the family laugh as I often scold a cat for bad behaviour (I know the cat has no idea what I’m saying but it makes me feel better!) then, if they come for a cuddle or do something cute, my resolve has gone in a flash.
How wonderful to know that despite occasionally letting Him down, God loves us forever, and even better in 1 John 4:19 it says, “We love because he first loved us.”
And so, God’s love spreads out into the spaces we inhabit.
