Meditation Verse: Psalm 13 “I have trusted in love, Your steadfast love.”
David is not doing well in this Psalm; in fact, he may even be depressed. In earlier verses he asks the Lord why He hides His face from him, I’ve certainly had times in my life when I haven’t even had the strength to try and pray due to bad circumstances. Last week we looked at pure words; sometimes the words just don’t come, but God still loves us and is there to carry us through. I learnt this after my stroke when in a perceived cloak of blackness I felt like God had abandoned me, I now can look back and see that even without being able to lean on Him, He still carried me through this darkest of dark times to the journey that I am on today. Of course, If I had known the prayer rhythms that I now have, this would have made me feel less helpless.
I have heard people question why we use the same simple prayers every time in our Renew spaces, I’ve also heard stories of Renew regulars leaning on learnt prayer habits during times of stress. Prayer is so important, and we must not marginalise it or dilute it out of embarrassment, we know People want to pray but most don’t know where to start, this is a gift that we should be sharing in our Renew Spaces.
