Meditation Verse: Psalm 22 “come quickly to help me!”
This week’s Psalm oozes with desperate cries to God for help but also recognises the Goodness of God:
“24 For he has not despised or scorned
the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
but has listened to his cry for help.”
As I read the whole psalm, I feel the emotional rollercoaster effect as it starts with desperation, moves through a calming phase and into praise. Sometimes it is in our moments of utter desperation that the reassurance of God’s love is seen at it’s clearest. This is easy for me to say whilst sitting at my desk (next to a snoozing cat) with my cup of coffee, in the comfort of my own home. I have experienced the darkest of desperate moments when God does not feel close and it was several years before I could see His goodness, so if your day is a not as light as mine is today, please take my word for it and re-read verse 24 above until it sinks in. Here’s a verse for anyone who has given to the Lord’s work and still finds themselves in a bad place:
Hebrews 6:10
“For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work
and the love that you showed for his sake
in serving the saints, as you still do.”
Bless you all.
