Meditation Verse: Psalm 61 “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
This week’s Psalm is another cry for help to God, the Psalmist is looking for refuge, protection and strength – all themes that we have seen before. I’m encouraged that it’s ok to ask for help again and again, there doesn’t seem to be a limit. I guess that our prayer life is an ongoing conversation with God and themes will emerge, I find myself often asking God for “the right words” to deal with different situations so that I can encourage and remain calm when listening to other’s anxious thoughts.
I’m not a rock climber but I have experienced views from a higher place thanks to a lift or a set of stairs, it’s interesting how different a landscape can look from a higher vantage point, for example the streets of Paris are busy and chaotic but from the top of the Eiffel Tower there is a calm beauty in the layout of the city with it’s river and green spaces. Sometimes it’s good to remember that we are part of a much bigger picture, and that God is with us in both the busyness and the serene moments.
Psalm 61:1-4
“1 Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3 For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the foe.
4 I long to dwell in your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.”
