Weekly Meditation Verse: Psalm 146 “Blessed is the one whose hope is in God.”

As I write this, the news is full of images of war and destruction in Israel and Gaza.  For anyone in the middle of this nightmare situation, it must be impossible to feel blessed but further down the Psalm there is more hope in verses 7 and 8 it says:

He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
    the Lord loves the righteous.”

When it seems so hard to know how to pray for this situation it could be helpful to remind ourselves of this week’s meditation phrase.   Let’s finish with a prayer for peace from St Francis of Assisi.

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.”
