Weekly Meditation Verse: Psalm 126 “those who sow with tears will reap with joy.”

This seems an odd meditation this week, but it uses a farming/planting metaphor to illustrate our lives of hope in the Lord.  I have a couple of situations that I pray about regularly that seem completely hopeless, but I keep bringing them to God daily, knowing that there is always hope, even if not in our lifetime.  In Jonah 4:9 we see Jonah feeling so hopeless that he says, “I wish I was dead.” And we know how that story ends!

One lesson that I seem to be learning over and over again recently is not to rely totally on my own feeble resources but to rest in God our Father who knows us, and our situations better than we do.

Psalm 71 says:

O Lord, I have come to you for protection;
    don’t let me be disgraced.
Save me and rescue me,
    for you do what is right.
Turn your ear to listen to me,
    and set me free.
Be my rock of safety
    where I can always hide.
Give the order to save me,
    for you are my rock and my fortress.
My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked,
    from the clutches of cruel oppressors.
O Lord, you alone are my hope.
